Charlie Farnsbarns Invitational 2022

Enfield Swim Squad's favourite meet of the season, the Charlie Farnsbarns Invitaional Junior Meet, took place at Southbury Road on Saturday, 18th June. This juvenile gala provides a great opportunity to our youngest swimmers to get used to the competition environment without any pressures.

Congratulations to Nell Singer, who managed to obtain top scores in all 5 individual girls events winning the Best Girl Award. There were lots of superb swims from our youngsters, some of whom swam in their very first gala today.

Thank you also our lovely friends from Broomfield, Hillingdon, Staines and Barking & Dagenham for coming - our guests' excellent sportsmanship and friendly staff and swimmers ensured a really great atmosphere. Staines took away the trophy for the top visiting club (congratulations!).

We do hope everyone had fun - we are already looking forward to Charlie's return in 2023!

CFB 22 Top Girl Award

The Swim Enfield Endeavour Awards

The Swim Enfield Endeavour Award is designed for squad coaches to reward athletes who show continued dedication and professionalism in their athletic development. This distinction is not strictly performance based like medals and trophies, but rather rewards Swim Enfield athletes displaying exemplary attitude and diligence in training, which set them apart. Recipients will receive the distinctive and exclusive Swim Enfield Gold Hat.

Choosing our Summer 2022 winners was no mean feat, as we have seen many of the required qualities displayed by a great number of our athletes throughout the season, but here is what our coaches had to say about their chosen awardees:

Alex Gunning, Senior Performance

‘Alex has shown exceptional dedication and commitment, as well as resilience, and is setting an example of the work ethic we are striving to form throughout the entire Performance Pathway from the foundation upwards.'

Gerry

Amélie Himsworth, Jessie Pengelly and

Mir Zahran Ali, Junior Performance

'Junior Performance is a fantastic group and we had a hard time picking our award recipients. In the end, Amélie, Jessie and Zahran all stood out by consistently working hard. Their dedication this season has been second to none.’

Rob & Oskar

Yasmin Smith, Youth Performance

‘I have chosen Yasmin for this award, for her great commitment, discipline, best improvement and her willingness to learn and improve every day.’

Tim

Davi Gill, Senior Competitive

‘The Senior Competitive Squad has been a pleasure to take since I first took it up. The swimmers work hard and are easy to coach. The Swimmer that has really stood out this season is Davi. His willingness to improve and better himself in each session and overall has made the decision easier for me. Davi has had a really positive attitude to the programme from the start and this has shown in his last few galas, where he achieved personal goals and best times.’

Matt

Terrence Kwong, Junior Competitive

'It’s been a pleasure to see the new Junior Competitive Squad really come together this season. All of the swimmers have come along heaps and bounds since joining the squad, but Terrence’s consistent hard work and dedication has set him apart. His focus and perseverance is reflected in the progress he has made this season. He is a great role model for the other members of the squad!’

Maya

Kristupas Peckus, Academy

‘Kristupas’ constant smiley disposition, his hard work and ability to maintain focus make him a worthy recipient of the Endeavour Award.’

M11 Junior League 2022 - Round 1

And that's a wrap! A fine selection of our youngest Swim Enfield competitive swimmers successfully represented ESS in Round 1 of the M11 National Junior Swimming League at Southbury Leisure Centre on Sunday, 10th April 2022. The team earned 214 points in this round to make a respectable 4th place in a tough first round draw. Nell, Amy, Alex B, Naz and Tiana all made first places and earned maximum points for the team in their individual swims. Special mention must also go to Safiya, Imogen, Annie and Wilfred, who joined the ESS competitive ranks from our Swim Enfield Learn-To-Swim programmes for the occasion and did an amazing job with multiple swims. Well done, team!

Very special thanks must go to our superb hosting team, including all our officials. It takes a small army to host a gala and we couldn't have done this without you.

Round 2 of the League is scheduled to take place on 15th May 2022. The ESS coaching team will be announcing round 2 team selections in the next couple of weeks.

British Swimming Championships 2022

Congratulations to ESS athletes and coaches Maya and Oskar, who both competed in the British Swimming Championships at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre during the week of 4th April.

Both swimmers had qualified in the 50m Backstroke and both had a successful meet, taking the big stage opportunity to set new PBs in their event. Oskar also set a new club record.

The Champs are Great Britain's flagship swimming event. They play a key role in the qualification process for World Championships, as well as the forthcoming Commonwealth Games. The six-day meet is also envisaged to help team selections for the remaining senior and junior international meets in 2022, with British and Home Nation athletes targeting big performances to get them on teams for the world stage.

British Para Swimming Meet and Para Swimming World Series 2022

ESS Athlete Charlie had a hugely successful four days at the British Para Swimming Meet, which is also the British leg of the Para Swimming World Series 2022. Charlie, a member of the current British Para Swimming programme, represented not only Enfield Swim Squad but also Team GB at the meet, after gaining her international classification the previous Saturday.

Competitors from around the world travelled to the event hosted by British Swimming at Aberdeen Sports Village. The 2022 Para Swimming World Series opener was the first opportunity since the Tokyo Paralympics for most of the participating athletes to test themselves against their international competition. Charlie set PBs and made World Series Finals in every event she took part in. She kicked off her campaign on Thursday with the 100m Freestyle, followed by 100m Breaststroke the next day.

Charlie’s highest ranked and arguably most successful event in the series was the 400m Freestyle, which took place on Day 3. She completed her heat swim in a 3-second-PB time of 5:36.75, achieving her highest point score of the meet (a whopping 700 points!), with a 5th place finish in the World Series Final. Day 4 was a ‘splash-and-dash’ for our athlete with another massive PB in the 50 Freestyle (0.63), securing her a spot in the World Series Finals amongst fierce competition.

ESS Shines at Counties 2022

Congratulations to Swim Enfield Athletes who qualified to represent Enfield Swim Squad at the 2022 County Championships, which took place from 29th January to 13th February at our Southbury home for our Age Groupers and in Hillingdon for our Youth swimmers, kicking off with a weekend for all age groups dedicated to long distance and sprint events. ESS athletes were successful on all competition days and in all age groups, setting PBs, gaining Regional QTs, making finals and winning medals.

Special congratulations to our County Champions Alex B, 10-11 age group winner in all 3 breaststroke events, MC athlete Charlie, crowned champion in a total of four events and Oskar, who is this year’s trophy winner in the 50 Back in the 17+ category.

Further medallists included Josh K (Silver 100 Fr), Lewis (Silver 200 Br, pictured), Rayan (Silver 100 Breast), Nell (Silver 100 Bk – huge PB!), Josh S (Bronze 50 Bk and 100 IM), Godfrey (Bronze 50 Fr), Joe (Bronze 50 Bk) and Malakai (Bronze 50 Fr).

Sam Earns Diploma

Swim Enfield Senior Sam C (pictured, middle) joins the ranks of athletes such as Adam Peaty and Rebecca Adlington among the extensive list of DiSE alumni who have gone on to enjoy continued international success.

The Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) is industry-leading and earning a place on the two-year programme with performance-based selection is fiercely competitive. The progamme enables athletes to combine their studies and high-performance training.

The programme culminated in a training camp in Dubai followed by the Middle East Open and Junior Championships, where Sam absolutely smashed his PBs to earn four 2022 British Championships qualifying times. Congrats!

2021/22 Enfield Swim Squad Season Off to a Flying Start

The Swim England Winter Nationals took place at Ponds Forge in Sheffield over the weekend of 3-5 December. Massive congratulations to Sam (and Enfield Swim Squad Head Coach Gerry!) for a phenomenal performance at this year's Winter Nationals. Sam competed in 5 events, set new PBs in 4 of those and placed in the top 40-45% in every event, in what was an Open age group competition. Well done on a huge achievement!

Further congratulations must also go to Josh for his recent performances, which qualified him for Winter Nationals in multiple events.

Sterling performances also took place throughout November, starting with London Winter Regionals, where Swim Enfield Senior and Youth Performance swimmers competed with ESS to set PBs throughout the weekend and bring home the medals. This was followed by the ESS County Qualifier, which saw our youngest swimmers take huge leaps to set new PBs, make County times, win medals and make their coaching team proud.

The highlight of October was our Masters team, led by Coach Tim, competing at their National Championships. Our crew took Sheffield by storm with some stellar performances.

Well done to all who took part and special congratulations to our medalists and national champions Craig, Judy and Gianluca!

  2. Brompton Breakers
  3. Camden Crusaders
  4. Ealing Eels
  5. Enfield Eagles
